National Performance Institute Calls for Strategic Partnerships Across Kenya

The National Performance Institute (NPI) is calling on schools, sports federations, professional and grassroots clubs, academies, coaches and sports organizations across Kenya to explore strategic partnerships focused on measurable athlete development.

Across grassroots sport, coaches and organizations work with talented young athletes every day. However, athlete development becomes more powerful when coaches can combine their experience with objective performance data, structured assessments and continuous progress tracking. NPI's approach is designed around establishing a performance baseline, understanding an athlete's strengths and development needs, and measuring progress over time.

From Talent Identification to Measurable Development

A talented athlete needs more than an opportunity to compete. They need a pathway.

Through NPI's performance assessment approach, athletes can be assessed across relevant physical-performance areas, creating information that coaches and organizations can use to better understand where an athlete is today and what areas require development.

The process is simple:

ASSESS → ANALYZE → DEVELOP → RETEST → PROGRESS

Rather than relying only on observation, organizations can begin building a data-informed culture of athlete development.

Why We Are Seeking Partnerships

NPI believes that meaningful athlete development requires collaboration between the different parts of the sporting ecosystem.

We are therefore inviting:

✓ Schools

Schools are one of the most important environments for identifying young sporting talent. We are interested in working with schools to:

Establish athlete performance baselines

Support structured fitness assessments

Help coaches better understand athlete development

Track progress over time

Create clearer pathways for promising athletes

Kenya's sports-development discussions have also emphasized stronger collaboration between schools, federations and other stakeholders in talent identification and development.

✓ Clubs & Academies

We invite football clubs, athletics clubs and other sports academies to work with NPI to introduce measurable performance assessment and progress tracking into their development programmes.

Our vision is to help organizations answer questions such as:

Where is the athlete today?

What are their strengths?

What areas need improvement?

Is the athlete actually progressing?

What should the next stage of development look like?

Sports Federations

NPI is also interested in engaging national and regional federations to explore how performance assessment can complement existing talent identification, development and athlete-monitoring programmes.

Federations can potentially use structured performance information to support their broader athlete-development systems and create stronger links between grassroots programmes, clubs, academies and higher levels of competition.

Coaches & Sports Organizations

Coaches are central to athlete development.

NPI is interested in developing partnerships that can provide coaches with opportunities to learn how to conduct assessments, understand performance results and use data as an additional tool in the development process. Recent NPI-related workshops in Kenya have already introduced grassroots coaches to assessment procedures, performance scores and digital reporting.

Building a Stronger Sports Development Ecosystem

Our vision goes beyond conducting individual fitness tests.

We want to contribute to a system where an athlete can be:

Identified → Assessed → Given a Baseline → Developed → Reassessed → Monitored → Connected to the Next Opportunity

This can help create a more structured pathway from schools and grassroots programmes to clubs, academies, federations and higher levels of competition.

Kenya's sports policy framework also recognizes the importance of collaboration between schools, universities, counties, federations and elite training centres in creating stronger sports-development pathways.

An Invitation to Partner

As Regional Director for Africa & MENA, I am inviting institutions and organizations that share this vision to start a conversation with NPI.

Whether you are a:

School | Federation | Club | Academy | Coach | Sports Organization

we would like to explore how we can work together to make athlete development more measurable, more structured and more connected to opportunity.

The future of African sport will not only depend on how much talent we have, but also on how effectively we identify, measure, develop and support that talent.

Let's build that system together.
